Straits is a swanky Singaporean restaurant with an interesting fusion of Southeastern Asian flavors.  The food was unique and delicious! Perfect for a girl's night out or date night! You can even bust a move in the lounge after dinner because Straits has a DJ spinning hotness from 10p-2a Thurs-Sat.

roti prata: *****
This light and fluffy appetizer was the perfect start to the meal! The flatbread reminded me of a kind of naan, just not as thick. The curry dip that accompanied the flat bread had an asian hot mustard taste fused with curry flavors and a thin consistency. Together, they were a match made in heaven!

wok tossed eggplant "bijang": ***
The menu says that this is a, "sweet & tangy Asian eggplant, bell peppers, onions." Well, they should have had sweet underlined, in bold, and in all caps because it was super sweet.  The tanginess balanced it out a little bit, but not enough.  Also, all of the entrees at Straits are served up "family style" and when this dish came out I was left wondering what kind of "family" could share this small plate?!

garlic noodles: *****
Yummy, savory, spicy goodness! This dish was awesome, but beware, the spice kinda creeps up on you just as you are about to swallow!

spicy basil chicken: *****
If chicken tikka masala and thai basil chicken had a baby, this would be it!  The shiitake mushrooms added that extra flare that put the dish over the top.  Need I say more? Y-U-M.

chicken curry pot pie: *****
This was such a cute take on the traditional chicken pot pie! I loved everything about this dish, from the buttery, flakey crust to the singapore curried chicken and vegetables on the inside.

service: **
Subpar.  I went to Straits for a birthday dinner and we had reservations at 8:15.  We were seated at 8:35. Had I not returned to the hostess desk to inquire about why were still waiting for "our table to be cleaned," I am pretty sure we would have been seated much later, seeing as she asked for the reservation name again and was looking bewildered during our entire conversation.  Professionalism is clearly not a requirement to be a hostess at Straits.  When we were escorted to our table there was no, "come with me" or "follow me, please." It was more like, "You three, this way." Um, ok.  However, our waiter was pretty good and very nice, thus, the reason for the 2 stars.

things to note:  The bathroom was community style.  There was one entrance for both men and women and inside there are two stalls for women, two stalls for men, and one unisex stall.  Everyone washed their hands in the same sink area and waits for available bathrooms in the same small space. Needless to say, we were not thrilled about this setup. :-/
